The Joy of Neighborly Harvests

Some of my favorite texts to receive from our neighbors read:
“I left a box of vegetables from my garden on the patio for you,”
or “We’ve got more tomatoes than we can eat—come grab some!”
Sometimes it’s, “Want me to bring lettuce or garden veggies over for dinner tonight?”
Or “The plum tree is overflowing. Come pick a few!”
I’m a flower gardener myself—our garden is small, so I usually leave the blooms in place. But how I love living near generous vegetable gardeners who share the fruits (and vegetables) of their labor!
One of the best things I’ve ever tasted came from our neighbor Barbara Carter: a lemon cucumber. It’s round, crisp, and subtly sweet—perfect with fresh tomatoes, basil, and lettuce.

Here’s to summer, sharing, and the simple joy of neighbors who garden.
