Board Members Philip Sterling and Bruce Glabau reported to the neighborhood board the following report about the condition of the tennis courts.
"We looked closely at the tennis courts today. I snapped pictures at various locations around the courts.
As you can see there is significant deterioration and wear to the surface of both courts.
The previous resurfacing overlay (applied during PB use a few years ago) is warping, peeling and cracking away, resulting in an uneven level, and dead spots, hindering a true bounce of the ball. This could also result in a tripping hazard if left alone.
There are several cracks (which will surely expand) running the length of the courts.
While the courts are still playable I am certain further deterioration will occur rapidly if left untreated.
Application of a surface layer alone will not be sufficient to fully protect and repair the courts for future use.
Please let me know if I can provide additional information or perspective."
This blog post with the report and request was sent into Jeff Munro and Kyra Haggart at Parks & Rec today. We'll report back what we hear from them here.
Jeff sent me this email on 9/29/25: "Thank you for the email Derrith. I have included Antonio Garcia in this email as he is the acting Deputy Director for Parks and this would fall under his area of responsibility. Staff will set up meetings with contractors to give us bids on the repairs and then we will get on their schedule for the repairs.
Thanks!
Jeff Munro (He/Him) CPRP
Interim Director, Parks & Recreation Department"

It's wonderful to see the tennis courts being used every day during good weather by the City Parks & Rec for youth tennis classes and by neighborhood and Lake Oswego individuals and families.
We've talked about hosting an Old Town Neighborhood Tennis Tournament. Or maybe an exhibition match? Anyone interested in that?
