Willamette River Pathway on Schedule for Completion in November 2026
Parks & Rec sent us this update on the construction and completion of the river pathway.
"Willamette River Greenway Trail Update
The Willamette River Greenway Trail project continues to move forward. Footings and retaining wall work are nearing completion.
Last month, a change involving a neighboring property required adjustments to a portion of the trail configuration. This resulted in a brief delay while revised design plans and permitting, along with additional costs, but the project is now back on track.
Over the next few weeks, work will shift toward preparing for paving, irrigation, and landscaping along the ramp. A ribbon cutting date has not yet been determined, but we are currently anticipating a celebration in late November.
Additional improvements have also been made to nearby parks. Parking lines at Roehr Park have been painted green to help clearly identify designated park parking, and the George Rogers Park parking lot has been restriped."

I asked Robin Krakauer, Parks & Rec Communications & Sponsorship Coordinator who sent me the update, about what I'd heard from neighbors on Furnace Street whose home overlooks the path who said that the construction team hit flag/hard rock on the switchback trail and were needing to figure out how to keep path ADA level/compliant with this unexpected rock. She got right back to me after talking with the Construction Manager from the City Bruce Powers and said, "I just spoke with Bruce, and we were aware that there would be rock and silt in that area. We anticipated those conditions and included a contingency in the project plan. The area has already been graded, and we did not encounter any issues."
We've been walking by and looking forward to the completion of this pathway which will connect George Rogers Park with Roehr Park and Foothills Park. Next summer we'll be able to walk or ride our bikes to the outdoor summer concerts at Foothills Park!
Here are some photos we took last weekend of the pathway during construction.

Onward! Looking forward to the completion of this long-awaited pathway.
