Selection of New LO City Manager

Sadly it won't be our Interim City Manager and LO neighbor Lynn Peterson. She took her name out of the application pool before the selection process began. She will finish up her contract in mid September and be a wonderful friend and mentor to us about how to work with the City.


The LO Review reported today about the candidates and selection process. No individual has been named yet as our new City Manager.

The city seemed to have included every other group in LO except anyone from the Neighborhood Association Chairs Committee...


The LO Review story stated, "The executive team panel included all department directors as well as Deputy City Manager Madison Thesing, Fire Chief Don Johnson and Police Chief George Burke. The community member panel consisted of members from city boards and committees, as well as representatives from the Lake Oswego Chamber of Commerce, the Lake Oswego School District, Hunger Fighters Oregon, LO for LOve, Oswego Heritage Council and the Lakewood Center for the Arts."


Not including a representative from the Neighborhood Associations seems like an unfortunate oversight by the City Council since the Neighborhood Associations are asked to do a lot for the City and residents that other boards don’t:

  • get out the vote for elections and bonds

  • host candidate forums

  • front line for emergency preparedness and helping neighbors in emergencies

  • communication with police, fire, traffic, parks/rec (if a park is in our neighborhood)

  • hearing the problems, complaints, needs of neighbors and representation of that.

  • Plus all the communication from the city we are to disburse to neighbors. 


Hopefully, we will have a new effective City Manager selected through this process.


I'm looking forward to getting mentored by our neighbor and Interim City Manager Lynn Peterson who has been so collaborative and "neighborhood-centric" in her policies.
