I enjoy walking to the Lake Theater & Café this time of year as movies with all the award buzz start appearing at the two-screen cinema. The historic theater also puts on several community events, including free events sponsored by the Lake Oswego Public Library. This includes a foreign film screening at the end of the month and the Pints from the Past program.
This monthly-ish Pints series are one-hour talks on a variety of local historical subjects. Over the past year there's been entertaining talks on Oregon Suffragettes, the Lewis & Clark expo, DB Cooper, the Hawthorne Asylum, and the "Lothario of Lake Oswego." Again, it's free, but it's highly encouraged to order food or drink from the restaurant to offset costs. If you haven’t eaten at the Café, you’re about to discover a new favorite (you don’t need to see a movie to eat at the Café).
I'll be there for their next talk, on The Stories Behind Our Streets. As Old Town residents, we know a bit more than most as our streets have signs on their naming. But what about "Lower Bones Ferry" or “Kruse Way?" You can get those answers on Tuesday, January 13, 2026, doors open at 6:30 pm the talk starts at 7:00 pm.
