For the first time in a decade, Lake Oswego is looking at changing the Tree Code for the city. There are several proposed amendments and you can make public comments before or at the June 8, 2026 meeting at City Hall.

Some highlights
The public hearing process will begin with a presentation by staff. Testimony will then be received from the public in-person and then remotely ). Individuals planning to attend in-person may also sign-up early, beginning ten (10) days prior to the hearing by visiting the Planning Commission meeting webpage:

The proposed amendments update tree regulations in the following sections of City Code:
LOC Chapter 55 – Tree Code
LOC Chapter 50 – Community Development Code
LOC Article 42.08 – Sidewalks
LOC Article 34.10 – Types of Nuisances
The amendments consist of 33 primary amendments (12 substantive and 21 technical), along with 35 additional minor revisions for clarity and consistency. Key provisions include the creation of a clear and objective Type II tree removal review track for housing development, expanded tree mitigation requirements, programmatic permitting options for public agencies and utilities, regulations addressing tree species susceptible to Emerald Ash Borer, and new street tree requirements for residential development.
